German owls!

From the ever-fascinating book on the evolution of German bookbinding, Die entwicklung der modernen buchkunst in Deustchland (1901),these owls are excerpted from “Der bunte Vogel,” or “the colorful bird.” (ironic, no?)

If you are a fan of Art Nouveau, this book is a goldmine of inspiration.

(You can find the original Der bunte Vogel on archive.org, though sadly not in our collection.)
